    Default Hyphenating a Child's Name

My question involves name change laws in the State of: Pennsylvania

I would like to hyphenate my son's name with my married name. He currently has his fathers name who is deceased I don't want to take that name away from him but he also wishes to have the same name as me. Can I hyphenate the name without my husband adopting him and how long do these usually take?

Yes, you can do a name change. Normally you'd need the other parent's permission, but under the circumstances you shouldn't have any problems as long as you attach a certified copy of the father's death certificate to the petition. Ask your court clerk's office where you can find the forms to file pro-se.
