My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of california:
I have an old car which I don't use quite often so I park it in the parking lot of my apartment complex. I received a letter(california civil code section 3072) from a towing company saying that car was towed and I own them $800 for towing and storage(it was towed 10 days ago and I just didn't notice). I checked w/ my apt manager it seems it was towed coz the tag was expired. But my registration is actually not expired it's just the current tag on the car's plate was missing. I'm wondering if I can dispute the charge. The notice I received from towing company says if I wanna dispute I should mail a letter to DMV to stop the lien sale of the car. But will I be charged for more storage fee during the process of DMV? I live in Sunnyvale CA.
