I'm a landlord, and I got the revserse of the your situation.
I have rented to young ladies that tells me they'll have boy friends coming over. So I asked, would it be 3 days a week, 4, or will it be all seven. Then I get a blank look, and get an answer like "I can't have a boyfriend stay over as many days as we like"??
OK, I took care of a mess for my mother in law. Some young lady she rented to had a boy friend "staying over" 7 days a week. Originally, it was a few days a week. They had a falling out, and the "young lady" she rented to left, leaving the "unemployed" not to mention obnoxious boyfiend behind. Now this guy claims to be a "tenant", because he claims the landlord KNOWS he's there "every night", so he's actually a roommate, and has to be EVICTED.
So I ask my tenants, how do you want me to allow stayovers without the guy becoming a "tenant"?? Is someone staying over 7 nights/week, every week, a roommate or just staying over??
And yes, before I married, my wife's (then my fiance) landlord wanted to know how many nights a week I'll be around also, and I felt she was within her rights.
Generally, my lease allows a 3 night stayover, and any more written permission, and extended periods require additonal rent.
And years back, my dad felt sorry for "Vietnamese" boat people and rented to a family of five, and they mentioned they'll have friends staying over every now and then. Because of noise issues, neigbors complained. The tenants then told my dad he can't restrict friends staying over, and it was not addressed in the lease. Turned out they had 21 people sleeping over, 4 bedrooms had two bunkbeds each, plus people sleeping in the living room floors. So, can landlords restrict sleepovers, you ask?? No??
