My question involves criminal law for the state of: California

Hello, i am 18 years old and had recently been charged with petty theft about 5 months ago. A few nights ago i was charged with H&S Code 11357(C) which is possession of marijuana over an ounce, and it is a misdemeanor. I guess what im asking about are the punishments for the charge and the possible punishments for probation violation.

jail time? i recently got the same paraphernalia charge a few months ago and it was just a fine because its an infraction and a municipal code, and i had already been on probation. what i have read on it, it will be "the same punishment with possible increased fine." the misdemeanor can be punished by a $500 fine and possible probation or 6 months jail time, but a few of my friends were able to do a diversion program and recommended it to me. i researched diversion programs and i am able to enroll without prior DRUG misdemeanors. I am planning to get a public attorney and enrolling in one of these diversion programs. is this a good idea?

o im sorry, the petty theft case has already been taken care of and it was marked to a misdemeanor, i received probation from it. i think i confused u and u thought i was being charged for it now.
