    Default Leaving the Country

My question involves criminal law for the state of: New Jersey
I am a resident of CT. Back in May I was placed on probation via a conditional discharge for a disorderly persons offense (basically a misdemeanor). I was told that a person from the probation office would contact me. It has been almost 3 months and I have yet to hear a word. I have no conviction and have yet to be spoken to by a probation officer. I have tried contacting the court to resolve the issue and they have just told me the paperwork was processing. I am intending on leaving the country to participate in a NOLS course towards the end of September. I will be gone for 2.5 months. Should I go on the trip if the probation office has yet to contact me still, or what do you suggest I do so that I do not get in any trouble? Thanks.

Get in touch with the probation office to discuss your situation. If necessary, bring a motion before the court asking for permission to travel and/or early discharge from probation - for that, it makes sense to get help from a lawyer.
