Default Is It Possible to Work as a Firefighter After a Shoplifting Charge?

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Florida

Is it possible to get a job as a firefighter after a shoplifting offense? Its a misdemeanor and i have a lawyer working on my case but its my dream and now I'm afraid I've ruined it. She says she will get my into a diversion program and have my record sealed and expunged.

Hopefully you lawyered up correctly......'cause stealing is a crime of moral turpitude and will most likely put the squash on any sort of civil servant application.

You have already lawyered up and that is a smart move. Even with a sealed an expunged record many of these positions clearly ask if you have "ever been arrested" and some even will notated that expunged charges must be reported. Other states do not require it.

How would you feel if you had a firefighter come into your home and steal from you?

You might not have prevented your dream but you definitely knocked yourself down a few rungs on the ladder. Competition to be a firefighter has always been stiff, even to be a volunteer firefighter. It costs a lot of money to educate someone who has a shorter life span than a police officer (statistics from my professor in college) and will likely end up injured, broken, and hurt for a paltry civil paycheck. Firefighters are our heroes and the competition to be a firefighter is stiff.

You may want to consider becoming a firefighter in the military. You get to be a firefighter, get an education, get training, and have veteran's preference with most departments even after a few years of military service. That and you get oogled by the hot military girls (and there are very few of them that are hot and single) on your base and you get to play with the big trucks.

Who doesn't love a firefighter? ...someone who stands for good when all of our public officials don't always seem to stand for good and are definitely not going to even think about getting their suit and tie dirty. Even when the police in a town are dirty and corrupt the firefighters are as clean as the bell or air horn on their E-One. Do you get my point?

Clean your act up and get your shit together! Listen to your lawyer. Get good grades in school, behave in class, and be looked up to by others and lead by example. Be the best you can be.
