Unhappy Retaining Wall Built On Neighboring Land

We bought our home from the developer 15 years ago. They built a retaining wall at the rear of the property. There was a 20 feet empty lot between us and a business that is no longer there. Recently we received a letter from attorneys saying that they own 9 feet into our property and would be tearing down the retaining wall and rebuilding it 9 feet into our backyard. Can they do this. Do we have recourse against developer. Can we be compensated for landscaping. HELP in Northern California

You should consult a real estate lawyer about claiming adverse possession or acquiescence. You can expect a developer to have both lawyers and money to litigate.
