There probably is formally or informally. It may encompass a negotiated disposition where the case is held open for a period of time and then dismissed upon the prosecutor's motion if certain conditions are met. This is something that your attorney or you if pro se would work out with the prosecutor--that would be an alternative to explore.
As an example, I recently handled a shoplifting case for a client where the case was left open for 6 months with the understanding it would be dismissed at the end of the period if she completed counseling courses and stayed out of trouble. That would be the type of arrangement you would want to check out assuming, of course, that the judge would accept it.
