My question involves criminal law for the state of: Nebraska.
On July 17th, I was caught shoplifting at a Gordmans. The total cost of the items stolen was a little less than $5 dollars. I was given a lifetime ban from the store. The police were called and I was arrested, but released. I was given a court date and, as I am a minor, my parents were called. Since this was my first offense, I have the option of taking a diversion program, something I'm definitely going to do. I feel awful for what I've done and I'm incredibly embarrassed by my own stupidity.
What should I expect (other than paying a hefty fee for it and committing to doing some community service) from the diversion program in the state of Nebraska? I have not been able to find a lot of information regarding it outside of the anecdotal.
Since I'll be needing to find some means of paying the fee for the diversion program, I'm going to be looking for employment. I assume the shoplifting charge is now on my record. Will it be removed from said record once the diversion program is completed?
Thank you.
