    Default Summons, No Lawyer Yet

My question involves criminal law for the state of: New Jersey

Hi, my girlfriend is being charged with third degree shoplifting. She has a summons for tomorrow and we don't have a lawyer yet. We couldn't start looking until Monday. We talked to a lawyer but don't have the money for him yet, today she applied for a public defender. How do we go about getting a postponement tomorrow from the judge to allow her to get a lawyer?

She (not we) pleads not guilty and requests a Public Defender. Judge will instruct her from there and give new court date
