Default May a father file to change a baby's last name?

The father of my child and I were only dating 4 months, and were broken up when I found out I was pregnant. We have not been together since, so I gave my son my last name. Now he has filed with the court to try and change my son's last name to his last name? Is he allowed to change that? What right does he have to his last name, why can't it be mine? I need all info on this and how florida law usually rules.

    He's allowed to try.

He would have to show it to be in the best interest of the child.
