My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Georgia
Background
I have a standard rental agreement with my landlord which we signed in May, 2008. There was no termination clause in the lease and I pointed this fact out to the landlord who said he would honor GA law on this issue. I have lived in this unit for two years and one-month. In the first year, I signed a contract. In the second year, there was no contract. This year, my landlord raised my rent and wanted to have a contract in place reflecting that.
On July 22, 2008, I gave my landlord a 30-day notice in writing that I would be vacating my unit effective September 1. I found another condo with rent payments that were more suitable to my needs. My landlord was worried he would not have enough time to get someone in the unit, and because he has been a great landlord, I verbally agreed to give him an additional 30 days (October 1) to find someone.
Problem
Well, he found someone and that person wants to move in in 3 days! I don't know if I can get everything done that I need to get done to move by Saturday. I will be incurring the cost of moving twice, once to accommodate this newest development and again in 60 days, when I had planned to move. I am also incurring an additional expense to store my furnishings until October 1. I am self-employed and this will affect my business because I will have to spend time packing and not working.
What are my options? I don't want this to become adversarial and I am willing to work with him on this, I just need at least a week.![]()
