Default Son Arrested Shoplifting in Another State

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Florida

My son is 17 years old & was caught shoplifting while on a trip to Florida with a group of friends. He & one other boy were arrested. They were both released to the mother of the other child without bond. They have been given a court date in September to return to the state of Florida. We live in Georgia. The arresting officier stated that since they had never been in trouble before & because of their ages they will probably receive a fine & community service. Questions:

Does my son need a lawyer?
What can we expect when we return for court?
My son will be 18 when he returns to court...does that change anything?
Is it true that this record will be sealed because of his age at the time?

Thank you for any information you can provide.
