My question involves criminal law for the state of: South Dakota
This weekend 07/27/08 two friends and myself got pulled over during a road trip in South Dakota, we are all from Nebraska. Two of us, including myself are only 20 years old while the other friend is 21. We had beer in the car and had been drinking hours before so we all recieved citations. The two of us who are 20 got MIP's while the friend of age got an open container violation. We all felt pretty lucky we didnt end up in detox for the night so we were just going to cut our losses and let this pass on by. However, today when we all looked at our citations, the officer wrote the abbrevation for our state of Nebraska as NB instead of NE.
We are all curious if this type of mistake would make the ticket invalid, as there would be no resedences with our names, addresses, or drivers liscence number in xxxxx, NB because the we are from xxxxx, NE.
Secondly, if this isnt a loophole, the two of us who recieved MIP's have courtdates back in South Dakota. Unfortunatley I live down south and just booked my ticket to fly home last week, which is the day before my courtdate. Is there any way to avaoid making this 5 hour trip back to court and taking care of the issue in another way.
Thanks for any help
