My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: California
I have bills totalling just over $2,000 from the local hospital. I spoke with someone there today and was told that I only have a couple of options when it comes to payment arrangements. Both were way above what I can afford on a monthly basis. I was told that I would have 90 days to make extended arrangements or my account would be sent to an outside agency, the man on the phone did not say anything about collections. He said that since I still have some time I can continue to pay down the debt and when I get the oh so wonderful "final" notice I can then make the arrangements.
At the end of our conversation I asked him if I could go ahead and make a $20 payment and he accepted it. If I continue to make these payments and they are accepted doesn't that mean that I cannot be sent to collections?
