My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: New York

I signed a 1-year lease for an apartment in a converted house (the landlord's only property I believe) in upstate New York.

I need to move back home to be with my sick dad in the Fall. I can put it off till November if I need to, but that's still breaking my lease at the 8 month mark (supposed to stay till April).

I've looked at my lease and there are no consquences specified for breaking a lease early and I don't know anything about NY law.

Any advice on what the possible consequences may be? I can give plenty of notice and am willing to help place the ads in the paper for my apt. which I've heard may influence a landlord to be a little more lenient.

Thanks so much!
