Default Pedestrian Going Around Activated Railroad Crossing

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: California

I was given a ticket for walking around an activated R/R crossing to catch caltrain. Anyhow, my question is to do with dealing with this ticket. I haven't yet received a notice from court, but i was told on phone that the ticket will cost me around four hundred bucks, but I could appear in court and request for a reduction and in most cases it will be reduced. I am wondering on what grounds should I ask for this reduction?

Also, will this violation (the officer noted my Driver's License number) appear on my driving record? Will it affect my insurance? Will I get a point on my driving record? Considering I wasn't driving, but walking, I don't think it is fair that it should appear on my driving record.

Thank you for reading my post. I would really appreciate your advice.

"Reductions" are commonplace in some states but don't seem to be in California. What, exactly, were you charged with? You need to supply more information.

I was charged with a CUC 22451(b) - Pedestrian going around activated R/R crossing.

I called the San Mateo court and was told by the representative who answered that it is fairly easy to get a reduction. When I asked on what grounds should I ask for one, she said I just need to ask. Is that right?

    Thanks for replying.

    CVC 22451.

The California DMV lists that as a one point ticket. Consider contacting them to determine if that also applies when you're cited as a pedestrian.

I too received this citation 22451(b) in what the Amtrak officer called a sting operation. I've read the language and it's extremely vague as to how it applies to pedestrians. I didn't go around any blockade when I crossed.

Any information on how to contest this would be very helpful.

@sudeep554 how did you deal with this? Did it affect your insurance or motor vehicle records?
