To clarify, my contractual relationship with this employer was at-will. Saying that, all full time employees (myself included) had to sign at-will paperwork. In addition, the state of employment (Illinois) is also at will. My because of the "contract" status, I was paid a higher hourly wage then full time employees, in return, no medical/dental ins. or pd time off. The vp who made the threats during the termination meeting had, on one occasion, chased me in the office in front of coworkers and customers. She is gay and had made comments to me about customers (same sex) who she found attractive. I did not pursue or respond to her comments. After several weeks, she began screaming at me in front of coworkers and cutomers on a regular basis. Her behavior was like that of a bully....every day there was an incident. The day she chased and screamed I had asked her if we could talk privately at 4:00 that day. She said that would be fine. She never spoke with me and ever since my request, she was very pleasant. In hindsight, I believe that was the day she had gotten approval to fire me. I felt sexually harrased while reporting to her. I was moved to her office to help out for 4-6 weeks. I didnt take any action against her because my help in that office was short-term. I ended up working in her office for 9 weeks. The person I was filling in for was training in another location. we were supposed to overlap in the same office the final week. The first day of that week was the morning I was fired. Besides the no such thing as a jerk employer law suit, is there a time frame in Illinois, where by if you are laid off due to lack of work, the employer must offer you the position before filling it? Say 90 days? Or is my at-will employment at their discretion?
