I had "contract" employment, no contract, but w/this company "not salaried". I was paid on an hourly basis with only profit sharing(company matched)/401k benies. I was terminated by 2 asst. vp's, one of whom cleaned out my desk & packed a box, while I was helping at another office. I was told the company was doing away with "contract" employees and that there was an anticipated slow down. I was NEVER written up & had worked for the co. for 8 1/2 yrs. Terminatoin was effective immediately. My manager, one of the vp's, would not give the reason in writing, as I requested. My box was carried out for me by the other vp. I called 1 week later and asked for a reference. I was told that he could not give me one. I then, 1 week later spoke with his boss who said he would give me a letter upon request if I could tell him who to address it to and that they documented my file as "lack of work" and to go sign up for unemployment, which they did not dispute, and I received. Weeks later I was offered a "contract" position, in another office, futher away, and in a different dept. with the same company by another vp. Weeks later I accepted the positon, for a lesser pay. I was only back with the (same) company 2 weeks (less than 90 days since termination) when I was replaced (the positon I was terminated from--they called lack of work) by the one-person-human-resources-dept's daughter. I was not offered that position. Threats were made by one of the vp's during the firing meeting, regarding a loan that I was taking out which disbursed the next day. Since Illinois is at-will, do I have a leg to stand on? Or is this OK for a major company in this state?
I was the ONLY contract employee terminted/let go. Is this wrongful termination?
