My question involves criminal law for the state of: California (LA County)
I've been on probation for the last 5 years. My probation is due to be over in November. I lost all my court documents a couple of years back due to some careless management with some file cabinets.
Some time ago I got a letter from my PO reminding me that I needed to show proof of completion with a Psychological counseling program. I really did not remember this being a part of my probation, but I can't dispute what they are asking since I don't have the documentation.
It's mid July and I received a letter ordering me to appear at a Probation Hearing. I'm currently IN a counseling program, which I rushed to get after I received that first letter, and I recently faxed them over a letter that the therapist wrote for me to present to them. The letter is simple and basically just says that I'm getting the counseling.
THE questions are; What are the odds of me being detained after the hearing for Violation? and; Should/Can I attend the hearing with a lawyer?
