    Default Emancipation In Michigan

My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Michigan

Hi, I'm from Florida and my girlfriend lived in Michigan, she is 17 years old but a ward of the court. Her adoptive parents dont treat her good, they kicked her out, called her in as a run away and a few weeks later she came to florida. She has tried to get emancipated a few times and her case worker, her lawyer, and her foster parents wont let her. 2 weeks after living in florida here the sheriff came and picked her up from this county. She was not entered nationally, but as a run away in michigan. She is currently in custody at a juvenile center in florida and I don't want them to take her back to michigan till shes 18.

Is there any possible way to get her emancipated or is there anything else that can be done? Her foster parents just want her in jail and want her back because they get paid 800-900 twice a month for her.

    Please help..
    Thanks

Clearly, she is in need of MORE supervision, not less.

No, she cannot be emancipated. She does not meet the requirements.

You have no say in the matter at all.

To add to that, if you attempt to bring her back to florida and let her stay with you, you will be charged with harboring a run away.

So basically all we can do is wait till shes 18? She turns 18 in May.
What if we were to get married?

If her legal guardians are doing all they can to take her back to Michigan, what makes you think they're going to sign the papers consenting to allow her to marry you?

And sweetie, what is your hurry to get married anyway? Contrary to the teenaged dreamland portrayed on TV, marriage is neither sunshine and roses and puppies pouring out of your butt, nor the solution to problems like this.

    I second that.

Youngster, I have been married for more years than I wish to count and not once, NOT ONCE, have puppies spontaneously jumped out of my butt.

Well the thing is her foster parents are only temporary guardians, her legal guardian is her lawyer.. being a ward of the court I don't know who would have to sign the papers exactly.. we planned on getting married in a year anyhow..but i figured if we were to get married maybe she could come back.

As far as I know being married in the state of michigan makes you a legal adult which is probably the only thing we could do. She has nothing in michigan and her family treats her like crap and her brother beats her but they will not call the police on him because he's a little mentally ill.

The only reason I turned to this site is because I don't know what else to do, I love this girl with all my heart and I want her to be safe and be happy and I figured I'd try to come on here and figure something out. There has to be some way.

If anyone knows how marriage to a 17 year old whos a ward of the state would be, as in who would have to sign the papers and would anything else need to be done, please let me know..
    thank you
