Default Exibition of Speed And Illegal Substances

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: California

Ok i believe Im in some deep trouble, first of all i should make clear that i'm an international student on an F1 visa, i purchased a car some time ago so i could go to school but my choice was a 1979 Camaro and "really smart of me" decideds to have some fun against a mustang, if u care i wont the race and my price was getting arrested, I am not trying to argue on the case for i know it is my fault, oh, in adition to that my friends had left .02 of weed on the car, i was aware, and so the cop asked me about it and anyways he found it. now my question is, at what extent will or might this affect me? meaning on my status. The paper work at the station was done and they have not yet mention anything about my status on the US, i have to go to court the first week of september and i just would like to be prepared for anything that may happen.

In the state of California, possession of that little is a misdemeanor that carries no jail time, a fine of $100, and the possibility for first offenders to have the offense treated like a minor traffic violation (no criminal record).

Your status complicates things. You could possibly lose your status. You have an attorney, right?

    it was my first offense,

in the other hand, no i don't have an attorney, yet, i'm not familiar with the all the legal system yet and as you probably suspect i'm afraid to lose my status, on the other hand, i'm not sure if i can afford one i'm on a tight budget. I know the court would give you one but i don't know if that applies to some one in my situation.

    Sure it does.

If you really can't afford an attorney, you can go to court, plead not guilty, and ask for a public defender. Mind, a PD might not be able to do much about your status issue (if you end up having one), but he may be able to get the charge tossed.

    May. No guarantees.

alright what about this? what if i admitted to the crime? if i said that i messed up and that I'm really sorry, that i understand why and how I was wrong.

Would this help me at all? i would rather pay a fine (even if it was high, by the way any ideas of what would this fine be? i was told around 1000 dollars if i show up to court) and keep my status than going trough the whole trouble of trying to defend myself for a lost cause since another person already admitted that we were racing.
