Default Guardian Ad Litem Isn't Doing Her Job

My question involves guardianship in the State of: Virginia

My daughter is under investigation by CPS for statements made regarding her fear of developing post-partum depression because of her history with depression and bi-polar disorder. A guardian ad litem was appointed to represent my newborn granddaughter on June 9, 2008. It is now July 14 and we have had absolutely NO contact from said guardian ad litem. How can this person "represent the interests of the child" and make any sort of recommendations to the court if she's never even talked to us, much less seen the interactions between my daughter and the baby?

Has your daughter tried to contact the GAL?
If not, that should be her first step.

If the GAL will not talk to her, she'll need to speak to the supervisor.

No, it never occurred to us to contact the guardian ad litem as she was supposed to be contacting us. We have told my daughter's lawyer, however, and she is trying to contact the guardian ad litem now.
