Default Remove Hyphenated Last Name of My Child in Florida

My question involves name change laws in the State of: FL
My 19 month old daughter's last name is hyphenated. We have not been in contact with her father since she was 3 months old, he does not support her in anyway. Is it possible to remove the hyphen and his last name from her last name? Would her father be notified? I'm not too sure where to start in this whole process. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Anytime you attempt to change the name of a child, BOTH of her parents must be notified. Removing his name from her last name doesn't remove him from her, you know. The child is just a year old, he has at least 17 years to come to his senses.

I understand that changing her last name will not remove him from her, he is doing a good job doing that himself.

To start the process you need to speak to your child's father to see if he's willing to agree to the name change.

You mentioned that he does not support her- do you have a court order for CS?
If you do, and he's not paying you can file in court to enforce the order.
If you don't have a court order, he is not legally required to support his child, so you'll need to file for an order ASAP.
