    Default Dating Age

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Florida

Im 16 And My Boyfriends 24. I've Been With Him For A Year.
My Parents Consent Of Me Seeing Him. But Is It Legal ?
If Were Not Having Sexual intercourse It Should Be Diffrent With My Parents Consenting Of It ????
Either Way Im Still Gonna Be With Him.
    Im Just Curious.
    Thanks.

What the hell does a 24 year old want with a 16 year old. There is something messed up here.

Parents cannot make the illegal legal... only the legal illegal.

In other words, if your parents allow you to do anything more than give your boyfriend a hearty handshake, they get to go to prison with him.

You guys are pretty far apart in age, so 18 is the consensual age for sexual contact in your state. It can be 16 if you guys were close in age.

"Dating" isn't technically illegal, it's the sexual contact that is. The term "sexual contact" varies from state to state. It could mean sexual intercourse, or even something slightly more than a peck on a cheek. As a good rule of thumb, if it can cause sexual arrousion, then it's probably wrong.

I've seen plenty of underage dating and even a 22 year old guy impregnating a 14 year old girl. I've never seen anything happen to these people because no one has ever pressed charges. So, a thought that is based on personal experience alone and with no legal precedence behind it: no legal action usually takes place unless someone wants to press charges. Either you or your parents can press charges. And if your parents hate your boyfriend and can't pin him for statutory rape, they can file a restraining order against him on your behalf, whether you want it or not.

Hope this helps. For the record, my mom married a guy who's about 10 years older than I and 10 years younger than her. So I've grown up not being too affected by age gaps... However, in some situations, like the one you're in now, I do find it to be a little crude and scummy of the 24 year old guy. Why he has to prey on 15 year old girls is beyond me (I take it that's how old you were when you guys started dating), and honestly, any guy like that you don't want to be associated with. You may not see it now, but as you get older you'll start to see the morbidness behind this relationship.
