Default Expired Green Card and License

    im a resident in california

my green card just expired and i got a verification letter from department of homeland security that says i can stay for another year until the next notification.

however when i went to dmv(in fullerton) for behind the wheel test
they said i could not take the test because the letter i showed them was not "legitimate". they said that it could have been forged by me
and they couldn't accept any other documents besides the actual green card. they also needed some kind of code? for their computer system.

i called the dmv office regarding this and the technician whom i spoke with suggested visiting a different dmv office. but don't they abide by the same rules? i don't understand how going to another office is going to make a difference.

i also called the uscis office and they told me to make an appointment with infopass and get a stamp which indicates that im still a resident on my passport. is this going to be enough to be able to get driver license?

i need to drive asap because once school starts im going to have to drive myself and i can't just wait for my renewed green card to come.

    please help!
    thank you!

Surely you're familiar with the phrase "tinpot dictator"? Insignificant, petty people who imagine themselves to be much more important than they actually are?

That would be your average DMV employee. Visiting a different office gives you better odds on getting a real Human Being who understands that your letter from the USCIS is in fact legitimate and enough.

Some people are just idiots. I was given all manner of hell when renewing my expired ID card a while back because one of my identifying documents was my marriage certificate, and the troll at the DMV said she couldn't take it because it was "too old". A visit to a different branch? Five minutes for a new ID, no hassle.

    So visit another branch.

    It should be.
