My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Michigan. I have alot of student loan debt, I have paid about 40K and have six figures remaining (owed to Sallie Mae but now being collected by Van Ru). I defaulted and I was told a judgment was entered against me in a Michigan court for the balance owed. Such a judgment does not appear on my credit report of the three agencies, but I do know that the loans are no longer accruing interest.
The loans are old, but I made payments until approx. Dec of last year. I have heard nothing from the "collection agency". The only indications on my credit report are from the Michigan Guaranty Agency and Sallie Mae, which state debt is closed, in collection, or has been transferred to another office. I dont even know if MGA and Sallie Mae are referring to the same loans for crying out loud. MGA may be the 40k I paid off in undergraduate loans.
I would like them removed from my credit report. If they did, perhaps I could get a loan to pay them off. The dates on the credit report are 01/01/0001 and 9/30/2002. I also wonder if I can still "rehabilitate" my loans or if I even should. I am self employed, so no garnishment. Am I just pushing my luck here?
Thanks for your input,
LM
