Default Landlord Making Us Pay Utilities Contrary to Signed Lease

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of California...

so my landlord keeps raising the cost of utilities even after we signed a lease saying that we would not pay for utilities past winter. However this lease was for two rooms one room which we gave up and someone else started renting. I never agreed to this increase he just gave me a letter. He made us pay for heating after winter, which we were not supposed to pay for, and electricity, and then after making us pay for these he increased the amount we should be paying.

He evicted us for no reason (someone clogged the toilet). He also sent us threatening letters telling us he would raise our rent if we were not as clean as he liked. There's no way all of this horrible behavior could be legal. Any help would be appreciated I would really like to know.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Do you have documentation of all of these bills? A copy of the lease clearly stating what you would and would not be responsible for?

Take him to small claims court to try to recover your damages.

You say "He evicted us for no reason" - so you've been evicted and no longer live in the unit?

Is your lease for a fixed term (e.g., one year) or month-to-month?

we have a month to month lease. we are taking him to small claims court.

someone please help. me and my girlfriend will be out on the street soon. I've considered just staying there and fighting the eviction. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks so much for posting!
