My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Florida. I am seventeen and I live with my mom and sister. For the past year, My sister and I have been emotionally unstable because of my mother. It has gotten pretty bad, to where my sister and I have nowhere else to go or no one to talk to because our mother is the only family we have in Florida. Recently, she refused to buy us anymore food until we get a job, and she is rarely home because she stays over at her fiance's house after working an 8-hour night shift. We argue almost every day. She refuses to buy me summer reading necessities and she has kicked me out and called the police. She has also hit us several times when we backtalk out of our stress. Me and my sister are trying, but I don't know if by getting a part-time job and managing school (full-time) that begins next month, we can afford that and being able to self-support ourselves. The only reason we have not tried to leave is because we have no where to go. She won't let us! Our mom also says that she will never sign the emancipation papers. I turn 18 in February, and my sister turns 17 in March and we have no outlet/help. We can't turn to our family because they are all in New York! So please, can anyone tell us if it is possible? And if not, what can we do to survive? I don't think we can take this much longer![]()
