Default Can I Get Emancipated at Age 22

My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Louisiana.

I am 22 years of age. My mother passed when I was 11. I am a college student and I wish to be emancipated because of financial education support. I have been living alone and providing for myself since age 18. My father refuses to help me! What should I do?

Work directly with the financial aid officer at the school you want to attend. The FAFSA form that you must fill out for aid will ask for parental info (the info that your father doesn't want to provide for whatever reason), but schools understand that not everyone fits into the cookie-cutter situations that the FAFSA was designed for. The school can take other circumstances not accounted for on the form into consideration and help you to get your application submitted or aid otherwise applied for at that school. If you're applying to more than one school, you'll need to go notify each school's financial aid office of the situation and see how they can work with your situation. It's possible that the school will consider you as independent if you can document your independent living, sign something, etc.
