Default Pending Suspension in Pennsylvania, Am I Able to Register in DC?

My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: Pennsylvania and Washington, DC

I just received a "final order of suspension" from the Pennsylvania DMV for lack of insurance coverage. The whole thing is the result of a giant bureaucratic misunderstanding (I've had my car properly insured since the day I bought it without a single day of lapsed coverage, but for some reason every piece of paperwork I have mailed to DMV in order to provide evidence of this has been "unsatisfactory" for one reason or another.) The notice states that the suspension won't be effective until 08/07/08. Here's the rub: I will be moving to Washington, DC at the end of this month and was planning on registering my car there as soon as I moved. Will I still be able to do accomplish this if my PA registration is either pending suspension or has actually been suspended?

If that's not possible, does anyone know the proper method of appealing this suspension? The notice states that I have 30 days to file an appeal at the Court of Common Pleas.

Filing an appeal of this violation is pointless. PennDOT will not overturn a suspension for insurance because of a court action.

Did you get stopped driving without insurance or did your insurance co. notify PennDOT of a lapse of insurance.

If it is just your registration that is suspended then PennDOT can only control PA, you can take the vehicle to any other state to register it. You can also sell the vehicle to anyone (family, friend) and get that vehicle re-registered in PA if needed so you can drive it again.

Because of the holiday weekend I am not in my office, but if you need it, I have the listing of exactly what you need to clear an insurance discrepancy with PennDOT. It is a pain, but like I said earlier no court can overturn it, only PennDOT. If you would like a copy, give me a PM and I will get it to you on Monday!

If you were stopped for driving without insurance than this is the only way to remove the suspension.

Have a happy and safe holiday!

No, I wasn't stopped for driving without insurance. My insurance company notified PennDot that I had cancelled my insurance, and PennDot then asked me to send proof of insurance. The problem is that my current policy is with the same insurance company that I had previously canceled with and shows a policy start date prior to the date of cancellation of my previous policy (don't ask why, it's a long story). So when I mailed them my proof of insurance, they said it was not acceptable, because they are apparently acting on the assumption that the proof I mailed them was merely proof of my prior cancelled policy, and not proof of my new policy. I phoned them and tried to explain the situation, but that went nowhere and now they've sent me this ridiculous notice.

If filing an appeal is useless, and having a registration-suspension pending won't cause me any headaches with registering in DC, I'll probably just ignore this. This couldn't have happened at a worse time (I'm studying for the bar exam at the moment, and simply don't have the time to fight through the byzantine procedures that PennDot surely requires). My frustration is sky-high. The fact that the state is threatening to suspend my registration when I've never had a minute of lapsed coverage is absolutely insane. How hard is it for them to verify this simple piece of information?

If you are going to ba an attorney, one of the first lessons is that phone calls are usually useless, especially when dealing with a DMV. You either have to go in person or send them the information CRRR. Here you should have had your insurance company rescind the notification.
