My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Virginia
Over a year ago I was caught shoplifting (it was dumb and I was extremely embarassed, haven't done it since). It was under 50 dollars, probably not even 20. I was taken to an upstairs room where I signed what I'm assuming was a confession, I was so shocked I didn't really care what happend, I just wanted to leave.
The officer (who worked as security at the store) took my license information (there was no finger printing or picture taken). I recieved information in the mail from a law office, I had to pay 350 dollars worth of a "civil penalty". A few months later I was sent a letter from the store saying the charges were dropped or somthing to that extent. I know I'm not supposed to go into any of those stores for quite a while (5 or 10 years, though i know it probably wouldn't matter and to just use cash if I'm at all worries)
but I'm most concerned about job background checks and if this will effect me getting hired, if this will show up on my "record".
Also, I am 21 years of age. I was 20 at the time of the incident.
Thanks for helping me out!
