I'm in California and recently received a bill from the hospital for a surgery I had two years ago. They are asking me to pay now double what I had already paid back then.
I have an Explanation of Benefits from the insurance company showing my portion and that is what I paid. I contacted the insurance company and they stated the hospital realized they were underpaid by the insurance company and wanted more money. They suggested I take the EOB to the hospital billing and show them that my portion was paid in full.
Is there a statute of limitations on a hospital trying to get more on a paid bill? It seems to me this is the hospital's error and they should write it off after two years. I cannot afford to pay more.
