    Question I'm 16 and Have GED, Job, and Starting College in September - Can I Get Emancipated?

    My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: illionis
    i am 16 years old. i have my Ged and i have A full time job. and i am soon going to jr. college which starts in september. I was wondering what could help my emancipation fall threw eaiser. i am in a hard spot right now and need to get away from this town because it will only take me back to DOC im just trying to change my life and look at the bigger picture other than right now cuz i want a good life for my kids so they dont go threw what i have...
    please help and advice would be wonderful

    You can see the Illinois emancipation laws here. You must be at least sixteen to bring an emancipation petition in Illinois. Among the other facts you must establish to emancipate, you must show to the court's satisfaction that you are "a mature minor who has demonstrated the ability and capacity to manage his own affairs or (ii) a homeless minor who is located in this State; and [that you have] lived wholly or partially independent of his parents or guardian."

    As you have no present ability to support yourself and have never lived independently of your parents, you should not expect be be emancipated.

    I do live on my own...... with my brother justin lives with me hes 18

    That is not on your own... unless you are paying all the bills.

    Is DOC a criminal jurisdiction? If you have a criminal record, your chances of emancipation are zero.

    You the people here are psychics? If you don't tell us something, such as "I live with my brother and not with my parents", we won't know it.

    I disagree with cyjeff that you can't have a roommate and be self-supporting. But you don't even have a job.

    You can have a roommate, but a family member is going to be a tough sell.
