Default Married to a F-1 Student

I am a US citizen and I married on May 24th to a legal F-1 student. We are working on all the paper work to change her status but her F-1 will expire in August. We can enroll her in more school to keep her F-1 going but it is going to cost us a lot of money and I would rather not enroll her if it can be avoided. I would really hope she never has to return to her country but I am not sure what filing all her papers gets her. If her status is pending is she required to keep her F-1 or can we just let that expire?

If you're already married and you've filed Form I-130 and Form I-485, she's fine to stay here.
