I was granted a student visa for a 4-year study in a U.S. university.I later transfered to Europe to continue my studies. Two years later I wanted to visit the U.S. to meet friends and due to misinformation, I used my student visa (which was still valid at the time) to enter the U.S. as a bona fide non immigrant for pleasure (tourist).
I was denied entry and had my application withdrawn for admission. However my student visa was neither revoked or canceled. The immigration officer made it clear that I could re-enter the U.S. with a proper visa and the withdraw application acts as if I didn't come to the U.S (That's what it is said on my withdrawal application form)
Only recently I applied for a tourist visa at the U.S. Embassy in my country and was told to wait 6-8 weeks for processing and had my finger prints taken for further process as well.
8 Months later the consulate officer contacts me to inform me that it would not be possible to issue a tourist visa and I would have to wait around 10 years for "things to cool off"!!
I told her that I cannot understand how this is possible since I was not deported/removal and I do not need a waiver to reapply. I presented myself as a bona fide non immigrant and now with my professional career I have strong ties to my country.
I am in total confusion. I would appreciate if you could advise me.![]()
