Mervyns does not need your permission to put you in database. Fact you stole was enough
Exactly you don't need to sign to be put into the system. Don't worry not everyplace uses their services. I can tell you that your dispute isn't going to work in your favor. Let us know what happens and if you need my help.

Panther no need to get snippy, just try and give these guys accurate info.

it seems like every retail place uses that system for background checks.

i dont think you should apply it online, you should apply in person and try to explain your sitution to them.

It isn't discrimination to refuse to hire a known shoplifter.

Retailers, as a general rule, do not hire known shoplifters, as they are considered a liability. There's nothing discriminatory about that.

I believe I meant to say if I was to fill out an application in person and then explain to them that I have shoplifted once and got caught, they will definitely tell me to leave the premises.
They will not consider me to have learned my lesson, as I will never shoplift again.
Go ahead, doubt me. Your opinion has no value to me what so ever.

I have worked in and around retail companies for over 20 years.

Regardless of what you may have read above, I have used SEVERAL nationwide theft databases in my searches on potential associate hires.

I would like to see the statute that requires the database to be cleaned out regularly. I have never heard of such a thing.

Most theft is conducted by employees. Therefore, it is stupid for a retailer to hire a theif.

Sorry. Your retail career is over.

It is perfectly legal to discriminate against someone that statistically is more likely to steal you blind.
