My question involves criminal law for the state of: New York
I'm sorry, I'm not really sure if this goes in this forum, but I didn't really know where to put it. I recently received an ACD for a petit larceny case, and was sentenced to 30 hours community service. The judge gave me the number of an office to call to set up the community service, and I was instructed to call them within 5 days. I called them on the 4th day, and asked if I could defer doing the community service until august (when I go back to school), and they said this was fine and told me to call them when I got back to school. Now, two days ago, I received a letter informing me that I had not contacted them and they were sending the matter back to the court. Is this going to reopen my trial? Can I be given a new sentence for this? The court told me I had till Sept 12 to fulfill the community service itself. I was so relieved to get this over with, and now it comes back to bite me. If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.
