Default Innocent Of Shoplifting Charge At Bloomingdales

My question involves criminal law for the state of: California

I was accused of shiplifting at Bloomingdales today. When I was walking out through the door with my parents, I was stopped, and they found a jacket that wasn't paid at my brown bag.

Both me and my parents have spent 2000$ there today, and that was the only item that wasn't paid. I have explained to them that I just forgot to pay for it, and they said that I was intentional, and they saw me through the Cam.

At the end, they agreed to release me, but I will have to pay a 500$ for the ticket, plus can never visit bloomingdales again, and they have taken all the giftcard I have. They said they are sure, me and parents would return everything, and earn the giftcards. And they knew it I do it all the time.

I was liked, I have never gotten any giftcard until today. And the person said, then ask your parents to return everything tomorrow if you want. You are not going to get back the gift cards.

    So my question is:

    - Is there any way that I can avoid the 500$ charge
    - Will this incident leave me any negative impact towards my credit hisotyr or sth?
    - What will happen if I ignore the 500$ charge

    Thanks everyone for answer

    1. you can hire a lawyer but, I dont think I will do you any good. Forgeting to pay for something is still stealing in the eyes of the Law.

    2. not sure on this question

3.If you dont pay for the ticket, It will go into warrant and your would be arrested.

It sounds like the $500 is a civil demand, not a ticket for a criminal case. If you don't pay a civil demand they can sue you and seek to also recover their legal fees.

They don't care how much money you spend there, as soon as you leave the store with unpaid merchandise they are going to stop you.

As for the civil demand, I reccomend you pay it, or it could effect your credit.

First of all, i am not doubting that you possibly did accidentaly forget to pay for the merchandise. But, every single person i have ever stopped swore thary forgot and it was their first time ever, until the police arrive and find out they have 1 or more priors. So sir, accident or not you are guilty of forgetfullness, which led to your demise. Good Luck and live and learn

The reason that you were not charged with shoplifting is most likely because the Loss Prevention Detective believed that you didn't intentionally leave with the item. However they still have to make a report to their company about it. There is good news and bad news. Bad news: If you ever wanted to work for Bloomingdales, forget it. Good news: A ban from Bloomingdales is usually only given for two years. If your story is true then you should probably try and be extra careful in the future. But what was said earlier is absolutely true. We've heard that story just about every time we've stopped someone so it won't get you anywhere.
