My question involves real estate located in the State of: Minnesota

My Grandmother went into a long-term nursing home a few months back. She filed a quitclaim deed to my mothers name back in 1998 for the house she lived in. The deed states "Reserving unto the grantor, (my grandmothers name), a life estate for the remaining term of her natural life". My grandmother lived in the house by herself until she went into the nursing home. The house is completely paid off.

My question is, can the state still place a lien on the home to cover her nursing home costs even though she quitcliamed the property 10 years ago to my mother?
