    Default I Broke A Lease Contract Now They Are Collecting For The Whole Year, What Can I Do?

    My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Florida
    A year ago I signed a lease to rent a store, though I am not the owner of the business, I was working as a manager of the flower shop. But the owner of the business decided not to move there as he found better location, so i called the agent within 2 days to terminate that contract. Also I did not received from him the key or even the copy of the lease.
    He told me he needed to consult his lawyer, and after that I have not heard from him.
    It's been over 6 months since I left that company. Today I checked my credit report and I found out there is $19,000,00 debt. I called the collection company to find out and they told me that this is about the lease that I signed a year ago and I never moved in. So they are collecting the money for the whole year. I asked them why I have never been notified about this action, and they told me that they were sending letters to me, which I have never received since it's my old address.
    Is there anything i can do about it to fix my credit?

    Are you stating that there is a judgment against you, or simply an entry on your credit report?

    Did you sign this lease as if you were the tenant, or did you specify your capacity in relation to your job (e.g., "Joe Jones, Manager")?

    I just saw an entry on my credit report and I called them. It appeared to be a collection company.
    I signed the lease and I gave the agent my business card, so he knew I was a manager of the store.He also told me that the owner had to sign it too. I did not get the copy of the lease because he told me he was going to mail it to me. Also I never got the key, so I thought this contract was not final.

    To fix your credit (have the item removed) you would need to write a letter to all three credit bureaus. Stating your reason. The bureaus will then contact the agency who posted this on your credit report for their side of the story.

    If the credit bureaus feel that they have verified the debt and that it does belong to you they will NOT remove it from your credit reports.

    Here is a link so you can write the letters;
