Default Will Being A Suspect Show Up On A Background Check

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Oregon

One year ago I was suspected of a crime and local law enforcment called me and after talking with my family decided it was best to not talk with the police. Now I am wondering if this will show up on a extensive backround check? I understand that some backround checks bring up more than others, supposing I was to apply for a Federal job or a job with a Law Enforcment Agency? would this come up? And if so can they disqualify me for this?

If all that happened was that you talked with the police and then no further action was taken (no arrest, no conviction) it is quite unlikely that it would show on any background check with the possible exception of one for a security clearance.

I refused to talk with them, the only talking was me telling them on the phone I would come by and then my dad calling and saying I wouldnt.

So, are you still an active suspect?

Because you refused to talk to them doesn't mean they aren't going to call you any more.

Are you saying you were suspected of a crime but you refused to talk to the police about it? You might still be a suspect & there's a *possibility* it could show up on a background check - it's according to how thorough of a check the employer does & what action the police took on the crime.

When I spoke to the officer in charge of the investigation on the phone they said that they just wanted to ask me about the investigation. I am going to go ahead and asume that was there way of sugar coating "you are a suspect we want to queston you".
