Hi All,

I worked for a guy in California doing Judgment Recovery. He would solicit individuals and businesses to collect their unpaid judgments. The judgment holder would assign the judgment to his company making him the judgment creditor. He could then execute garnishments, etc and the money would be payable to him and sent directly to him, he would then disburse the funds to his client (the plaintiff).

I have spent months trying to get my own judgment recovery business off the ground in Michigan I have spent quite a bit of money and a lot of time doing research. I spoke with my local court (Kent County) and the told me that I could not assign a small claims judgment but civil judgments were fine. I based my whole business off this information and know the judge won't sign off on the assignment.

What do I do?

My understanding is that if I can not assign the judgment to my company I can not legally collect it without being a collection agency. I also cant help my customers with advice as that would be giving legal advice and I am not an attorney.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Jeff MI
