My question involves a security deposit in the State of: Ohio
I currently attend college at Ohio University. During this time last year I was signed on a lease agreement that I wanted to get out of. I found someone to sign my lease over to. When it was time for those tennants to move in, the apartment flooded and somehow they lost part of their rent and their security deposits. My concern is that I paid for the security deposit when before, when I first signed to that lease. I want to be refunded by the person I signed my lease over to.
I have a signed addendum stating that the person I signed over to is to pay me 100% of the amount of the security deposit at the end of the lease. But since they got out of that lease he does not want to pay me back. All the other tennants there had to pay their deposits to the landlord except for the one I am dealing with because I had paid it before. Do I have a legal stance to get my money back? I paid for his deposit and was supposed to be repaid, but now he does not feel like he is responsible for that.
My question is: Can I sue the kid I signed my lease over to for the amount of the deposit I paid?
