My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Michigan

I signed a lease with a new rental development that has not yet been completed. My lease specifies a set time of occupancy, with a move-in date of September 1st. It also contains a clause that explains that I cannot take legal action against the landlord if it is not ready in time.
As it turns out, it isn't going to be ready in time for me to move in. The building does not appear to be even near done and the landlord is, so far, refusing to talk to me or explain anything. All I could get him to say was "no, it will not be ready".
What can I do? I don't especially care about taking any legal action against him, I just want my security deposit back and I would like to take out a new lease somewhere else.
