My question involves criminal law for the state of:Michigan
I have yet to be charged but plan to turn myself in after speaking with Michigan State police...they have been very nice and have told me I could make a deal with the prosecutors office
Would it be prudent to retain a lawyer for charges of embezzlement of around $2500 or apply for a court appointed lawyer - I have very little money...or will the prosecuting attorney just negotiate with me?
This is my first offense - I am truly sorry for what I did...i was under the influence of drugs and took the money to support my drug habit...since then I have made restitution to my former employer and cleaned up my act...
I am not sure what will happen next...
Does my former employer have the ability to drop charges at this point or is it now in the hands of the prosecutor...
Thanks
