My question involves criminal law for the state of: TN
My friend was caught shoplifting at a major department store. She is 17 and will be 17 when she applies to college. The department store called the police and she got a Juvenile Summons and she said that the cop was like, "all this business about your record going away when you turn 18 isn't true...this will stay with you... colleges will see this..."
She is worried that when she applies to college (she will still be 18 when she applies) that they will ask if she has even has a misdemeanor. In which case, she will have to say yes and then they will see this.
If she has her record cleared will colleges still see it? She plans on getting a lawyer and getting the ticked process so her record is clear. Then can she say that she has never been convicted of a misdemeanor?
