My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: Ohio.
I have not lost my full-time job, but it's in jeopardy due to what appears to be an impending outsourcing of my entire department. As such, I'm curious about my unemployment insurance benefits, if any.
I've worked at this full-time position for five years. I also have a contract freelance consulting gig that I've had for roughly the same amount of time. About 25% of my annual income comes from the consulting position. I make more than the minimum required to qualify for benefits at my full-time position. I have 3+ dependents.
Two questions:
Can I expect to be eligible for any unemployment insurance benefits assuming I lose my full-time job and continue with my freelance consulting gig?
Company policy is to pay one week of severance for every year of service, and the company has honored that policy with recent layoffs; assuming that would continue with my situation, can I expect unemployment benefits to be denied until the severance has exhausted itself?
Thanks.
