Default Unemployment Insurance For A Federal Employee

My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: DC

I am a federal employee who is currently on leave without pay due to my spouse getting reassignment orders. DC denied my UI because I am leave without pay with the belief that it means I still have a job and can go back, which it does to an extent; however, I am LWOP so that I do not loose my federal benefits that I have earned. I do not plan on returning to DC as I am here in GA with my spouse. What is out there to protect Army spouses of nonsense like this. It is not our fault we had to move. LWOP is a benefit for federal employees in a situation like mine so that they do not have a break in service and loose their leave. I now have to appeal. What should I do to fight this? DC from what I heard is one of the only states like this. The rest of the US wants you to be on LWOP when filing for UI. Please help! This is unfair. I have no income now.

    Default Re: UI

There are only a handful of states where UI is granted to spouses who had to quit their jobs to follow a trailing spouse (and military spouses are by no means the only ones who have this happen). GA is not one of the few states that does.

No one here can make the law say something different than it says. If that is not a valid reason to receive UI in your state, nothing anyone here can say or do will force the UI office to grant you benefits.
