Default New Address on Experian Credit Report

Very recently I start to notice new address popping up on my experian credit report. I have a pretty good idea on who this is and let me explain:

    - About 10 years ago, when I was still a naive student I was dumb enough to co-sign for someone else's Bestbuy credit card. I have not been in contact with the person for at least 9 years and have completely forgot about the co-signing.

    - Fastforward to 1 year ago, when I tried to apply for a mortage I notice there were some unpaid balance (about 4k) and some 60 day late notice on this credit card. I actually tracked down the person since his address was on my credit report and he paid off the balance partially (2k) and mysteriously disappears.

    - I realized that I make a stupid mistake 10 years ago so just sucked it up and pay the remaining balance and closed out the account. I was told by bestbuy they have a policy that no one have access to my personal information except me and the account can not be activated anymore even by the other guy.

    - Ever since them strange things have been happening, I have been receiving debt collection notices for this guy, and some one actually showed up at my door try to re-claim his car. It is not until recently that I saw these strange address popping up on my credit report again.

So what exactly is going on here? Why is his address keep showing up on mine report? Does that mean my address is showing up on his? Is my credit report somehow 'married' to this guy? How did the collection agencies find my address? And most importantly, how do I fix this mess once and for all?

I know I probably deserve the blame becase I was dumb enough to cosign for someone 10 years ago, but can anyone offer any advice what I should do?

    Default Collections Problems

It may be that there are online records search services which produce your name along with his, probably due to the past joint account and recent payoff, such that they believe that he may share your address. If there is erroneous information on your credit report, instruct experian of the error and ask that they remove it.

Whenever you apply for credit or a loan and receive adverse action, you have a right to the information on your credit report and the source of that credit report. I would recomend trying to contact that source. By doing this you may require them to furhter investigate their source and remove the inaccurate information until such time that it is varified as being correct (which in your case will not be correct and therefore deleted).
